Volunteer with GPA MN

As an all volunteer organization, GPA MN relies heavily on the contribution of volunteers as a means of direct support for our organization, whether that volunteer service is time or talent. Even if you don't have a greyhound in your life, we welcome your participation with GPA MN! Contact info@gpa-mn.org to get involved

Pet Zone Northeast.jpgThere are many different ways you can help GPA MN beyond adopting and donating money. In fact, the gift of time is often as valuable as financial contributions.  Some ways to volunteer are:

  • Become a Board Member: Elected position of 2 years. Voting member with direct influence on decision making.

  • Events & Fundraising Committee: Have your voice heard and provide input and perspective on the next event or fundraiser. Plant sale, Greyfest, swag, etc.

  • Special Events: Throughout the year, GPA MN participates in, or hosts, several special events to raise awareness, promote GPA MN, and raise funds; some of these are the Minneapolis Kennel Club Dog Show in November, the Land O'Lakes Kennel Club Dog Show in St. Paul in January, local neighborhood events like Woofstock in Linden Hills, Pet Zones at several Open Streets events, and, of course, our own Greyfest and Heal a Hound/Greyhound Gala events. We typically call for volunteers in advance of these special events, through Facebook and our email list.

  • Meet & Greets: GPA MN hosts several Meet & Greets every weekend around the Twin Cities and beyond. See the Meet & Greet page for more details on how you can help this effort.

  • Coat Making: We provide a coat to new adopters of every GPA MN dog during the cold winter months, and coats are needed for dogs in foster. Talented volunteers sew many of these, so if you are handy with a sewing machine and fabrics like fleece, your efforts would be greatly appreciated. We also accept donations of materials for making coats. If you would like to donate materials, or coats, please contact us at info@gpa-mn.org. There is a Coat Pattern available online; this double-layer coat can be made from any sturdy fabric and provides good warmth for hounds.
    • A good coat requires:
      • 1 yard of outer fabricM&G 2 - Jeanine.jpg
      • 1 yard of inner fabric
      • Velcro for closure
      • Thread
      • A sewing machine
